This section looked so lonely with no posts.
So, I just thought I'd point out that the picture on the main site labeled "Scott Gunderson & Mark Przybylla (1979)" is no more than two thirds correct. The hairy creature to Scott's left (the right side of the photo to the rest of you), is in fact, Mike Przybylla, Mark's older brother. Since Big Chez has not received his due attention, possibly from leaving the corps to join THE Corps, and did not (as John Gunderson has pointed out) lead the Sundowner remnants in some Lord of the Flies remake as his little brother did, it is necessary to aknowledge him whenever the opportunity arises.

Thanks Bill! Wow - it's been a while since I've needed to update those photo pages. What a mess! Over 600 files in the root directory. If I had to do it over again, I'd structure the site a little better. Probably never gonna happen, though.

Thanks for the correction!

1978 VFW finals left out of Sundowner recap.

Postby Bill » Sat Oct 21, 2006 4:47 am

I can't believe I'm going to point something out, after you spent so much time to make the site awesome. But, here it goes.... Sundowners made VFW finals in 1978 also. [for the record: 1978 AL 7th place (5th place drums), and VFW 8th place (6th place drums)]

I really hope Mike doesn't put a curse on me for this.

Thanks Bill - I suppose I should have done more research than just going to corpsreps.com (which doesn't have either VFW or AL nationals listed for 1978.)

Bill blathers some more....

"Real" Corps (read: dci) consider 1978 VFW an abhorration, because it was held in Dallas, Texas, too close to dci finals night in Denver, Colorado for any of the big boys to make it. Only A Corps went, with the result being the crowning of the Saginaires as VFW Champions.

Just for more Sundowner trivia in a place were someone might see it, 1977's VFW was held in Golden, Colorado, so the corps got to compete in VFW prelims, and watch dci finals in Denver. That year I don't remember the placing at prelims, but I remember seeing the scores a few years later while looking at paper work in the file cabinets of the corps building office. If the drumline's score did not place it amongst the finalists, it came awfully close, and at AL that year, although the corps was left out of finals with a 13th place, the drumline's score in prelims put it ahead of several finalists.
